So i have been in france for almost a week now, and it has already been the best time of my life. Lacoste is so beautiful. the neighboring towns are insane. Bonnieux, which is like 6 kilometers away is pretty cool and has really good pizza. I never thought that french pizza would be so good.
Classes are going really well so far. I have to read alot for World Masterpieces but what can you do about it. We are reading The Hunchback of Notre Dame. It will be really exciting to go to Notre Dame after reading about it in the novel. My Prof. is soo cool. she is a little chinese woman who tells us stories of being in the homeland with her revolutionary parents. yeah, her parents were revolutionaries during the reign of chairman Mao. How cool is that.
Photo is going well. although i was freaking out about it it should be pretty cool. When i got to class we all introduced ourselves. everyone was a senior or junior, but there was one grad student. it scared the crap out of me. we got an assignment where we have to keep a journal. in this journal we have to take a picture in the same spot for 20 days. we can look up, down, turn around, pretty much take a pic of whatever we want but you cant leave that spot. i picked a old abandoned roman fountain. its pretty sweet. its right off the 2000 year old roman road that leads down from lacoste to the valley. we went on a field trip through the vineyards in the valley and looked at some ruins that SCAD is renovating. its going to be pretty sweet when its done.
Treasures of Provence is AMAZING!!! Its def my favourite class. we are in the class room on tuesdays and then on thursdays we go on field trips. today we went to Gordes. its def the prettiest place i have ever seen with my two eyes. It was one of Princess Diana's fav places to stay when she needed to get away. In the city there was the most incredible church i have ever seen. it was built in the 17th century. the walls were covered in french baroque and rococco frescos and there were paintings and sculptures all over the place. it was a giant hodgepodge of religious stuff. i will post pics of it later. Also in the city was an amazing Boulangerie. a Boulangerie is a pastry shop. i got the most amazing tiramisu. it had fudge and some kind of expresso filling. basically it was heaven in your mouth. We also went to the Borie village. It was one of the weirdest places i have ever been. Borie's are limestone huts. so basically it was just a bunch of them in the middle of the woods. they were really crazy. they totally looked like something in starwars.
The food here is really good. we have french bread with every meal. and this stuff called Tartare. its a soft white cheese with garlic and parsley. and the most insane desserts. everything here tastes better. the tea, coke, apple sauce.
I am going on a hike tomorrow with some friends so that should be pretty fun. then on Saturday i am going to Apt to the market. and to go to the cathedral. I have to write a paper on the cathedral for art history. anyways, i will post some pictures soon.
